Cultural Arts Award
Once again, more than 100 people attended the 12th annual Birmingham
Bloomfield Cultural Arts Awards on Sept. 7th, co-sponsored by the Cultural
Council of Birmingham/Bloomfield, The Community House, the Eccentric
Newspapers, and the Birmingham-Bloomfield Art Center.
Arts supporter Peggy Kerr won the 2007 Birmingham-Bloomfield
Cultural Arts Award and architect/photographer Balthazar Korab received a
special Lifetime Achievement Award.
Kerr received a newly-designed plaque by Birmingham jewelry
designer Link Wachler. It was accompanied by a bracelet, duplicating in
miniature the depiction of various arts on the plaque. Korab received a
framed citation and a similar Wachler bracelet.
Nominations for the award come from members of our community.
The panel of judges which decides the award changes each year but is always
designed to represent a cross section of the arts. This year they included
Judy Adelman, The Community House Storytellers Guild; Lauren Bauer, Director
of The Community House Ballet and Jazz School; Dan Boyce, musician; Natalie
Bruno, Development Director of the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival; John
Castellana, President TMP Associates Architects; Victor Pytko, artist; John
Reddy, 2006 Cultural Arts Award winner; Link Wachler, designer for Wachler
Jewelry; Darline Williams, chair of the Storytellers Guild and Kristie
Everett Zamora, director of the Oakland County Office of the Arts, Culture
and Film.
About the Award
The Birmingham Bloomfield Cultural Arts Award goes to "the person who has
done the most to further the arts in the community." Award winners are
selected for efforts and achievements for the arts, which can include music,
drama, literature, dance and visual art. The person must reside in or
contribute to art projects in Birmingham, the Bloomfields, Franklin, Bingham
Farms, or Beverly Hills. A panel of judges chosen for their expertise in
various artistic media selects the winner. Recipients receive a bronze
medallion and their names are recorded on a permanent plaque in the
Birmingham City Hall. The award is sponsored by the Cultural Council of
Birmingham/Bloomfield, The Community House, the Birmingham Eccentric, and
